Albuquerque Museum Foundation is a first-time recipient of a grant from the Andy Warhol Foundation for the Visual Arts. A $100,000 grant was awarded to support the upcoming Albuquerque Museum exhibition, Broken Boxes that will be on view September 2, 2024 – January 5, 2025. Broken Boxes celebrates 10 years as a podcast project that highlights BIPOC, LGBTQ+, and activist visual artists whose work and practices challenge social, political, and creative orthodoxies.

Co-curated by Ginger Dunnill, a multidisciplinary artist from Santa Fe and Dr. Josie Lopez, head curator at the Albuquerque Museum, the project will feature many of the podcast’s artists through programming, an experimental art book, and exhibition which will include large-scale works inside the gallery, a mural commission and outside works, and an audio installation. Dunnill and Lopez’s collaborative curatorial concept will bring works by the artists together in dialogue with each other and with the artist’s words from the podcasts.

“The Fall 2022 grantees are nimble, adaptable and responsive to shifting cultural conditions enabling artists to engage with important issues, provoke public conversation and extend their practices beyond the confines of a studio or gallery space,” says Rachel Bers, Program Director for the Andy Warhol Foundation for the Visual Arts, “We are pleased to support these organizations as they make way for artists to challenge and complicate our ways of moving through the world.”

Albuquerque Museum Foundation was one of 48 arts organizations nationally and one of only two in New Mexico who received funding from the Andy Warhol Foundation for the Visual Arts during Fall 2022 grant cycle.
